Cherries have been raised in China for more than 4000 years. There are two kinds of cherries: sweet cherries originating from the Black Sea and sour cherries from the area between Switzerland and the Adriatic. Today cherries are raised in Denmark among other countries. The color of the cherry is either yellow or red depending on the kind in question. Sour red cherries from Denmark are used for Danish Selection marmalade, which are harvested in August and September.
